United to Continue Good Champions League Form against Young Boys
While their league campaign is so far going far from how it was expected to, Manchester United fans should be pleased with how their team has been performing in the Champions League. They face Young Boys on Tuesday, a team they have already beaten this season away from home, and there was nothing in that game to suggest the Swiss club should be able to cause any problems at Old Trafford when they visit.
While the league is taking centre stage and giving fans the ammunition they want to complain about the way the team is going under boss Jose Mourinho, the Champions League offers a rest from that, albeit only for one night. It has been a good start for United in this competition, and a win here could be enough to get into the next round if things go their way in the other game between Juventus and Valencia.
Champions League Group H so Far
Juventus top the group with nine points going into the fifth round of games this week, something that was expected to happen. They have won three and lost one of their games so far, with Manchester United being the team to serve them that defeat. Although trailing the game, The Red Devils found a way to score twice in Turin to bring home a vital three points and put a huge smile on the faces of their fans, something that has been missing for most of this season.
Jose Mourinho’s men are in second place going into this week with seven points, just two ahead of Valencia in third, who are their rivals for the final qualifying spot. A win here for United could be enough to get them through with Valencia being away to Juventus on the same night. Anything other than a win for Valencia coupled with a win for Manchester United and United will have second place confirmed regardless of what happens in the last week of games.
It seems highly unlikely that Young Boys will be able to do anything other than finish bottom of this table, something that they looked sure to do before a ball was kicked in the group. They have just one point at the moment, and with this trip to Old Trafford and a game against Juventus still to come, seeing them end on one point would not be a surprise.
Is Jose Mourinho the Right Man for Manchester United?
The topic of whether or not Jose Mourinho is the right man for the job at United is something that comes up in conversation pretty much every day. Their performances in the Champions League have been ok so far, and they have certainly picked up the points they were expected to, if not more, whereas the same cannot be said for their league campaign so far.
The top six of the Premier League is something that is well established and they have a fair gap over the rest of the teams. While United’s place in that top six changes from year to year, they are a solid feature in that top six and capable of competing with teams in there. However, that hasn’t been the case this season, much to the annoyance of the fans. United are currently down in 7th place after a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at the weekend, yet another hugely disappointing scoreline for them.
It isn’t just their position in the league that is the problem though, it is also the amount of points they are behind their rivals that is causing concern amongst fans. After their draw at the weekend, United have 21 points on the board so far. They finished 2nd last season, a position that is currently held by Liverpool, and they are a huge 12 points clear already, a gap that could be too much to close even at this early stage. This is a team that United are supposed to contend with, and one that right now they are simply miles behind.
They are seven points behind Chelsea, who occupy the last of the top four spots, and anything other than finishing inside the top four would be seen as a dissapointing season. However, if United were to finish outside of the top six, and completely miss out on European football this season, that would be seen as a complete disaster. From being second last season to dropping out of the top six all together would certainly be something that would cost Jose Mourinho his position as head coach at United.
It is clear to see why the fans are frustrated right now, and it is hard to disagree with what they are saying. There is a lot of problems with the team United have put together this season. They are lacking the quality to compete with those they should be competing with, and seem to have fell behind the main group, something that has happened in such a short time after last seasons’s 2nd place finish.
Some people will be unhappy with the situation, some rivals will be gloating about it, but one thing is for sure, it is a fascinating story that continues to unfold.
Manchester United vs Young Boys Betting Tips
With their league form far from impressing right now, Manchester United will be looking to pick up where they left off from in the Champions League. There has been a lot of promise from them in this competition, and their shock 2-1 victory over Juventus away from home in their last game was a vital three points for them.
Pushing their league form to one side, I am hoping they can continue their impressive Champions League run and pick up another win in the competition here. Young Boys have shown that they are simpy not capable of coping with the teams in this group, and they look set to be left at the bottom of the table after a tough campaign for them. United won the first game in Switzerland, and there was nothing there to suggest that Young Boys would be capable of overturning that here.
I think this could turn into a comfortable night for United and not only am I backing them to win this one, I am backing them to do so on the -1 handicap line here. That means they need to win by two goals or more, and although their league form is a worry, this is the Champions League and I fancy United to come out and win comfortably here.
This competition has been a rare ray of shining light for United so far, and I’m backing them to keep that up here.
