Sheffield United Fancied to Get the Better of Sunderland in EFL Cup
Sheffield United host Sunderland in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, with the Premier League team looking to remain in this competition at the expense of their League One opponents. This is far from the most important competition in the calendar for United, but with a fair sized squad and players waiting for opportunities who were promoted with them last season from the Championship, they have plenty of options when it comes to who they play here.
Sunderland will probably not approach this like a normal lower league team either, which gives Sheffield United an even better chance of winning in my opinion. For them, it is promotion from League One or disappointment, having a cup run in the EFL Cup or any other competition for that matter will not count to the fans, promotion is the must have this season.
With that in mind, I see this game as a battle between two reserve teams. The players who cannot get a game in League One for Sunderland against those who were promoted from the Championship last season with Sheffield United, but can’t get a game this season because they have brought new additions into the squad. When you look at it that way, there is no doubt that Sheffield United are by far the stronger team here and one that should win comfortable.
United have made a great start to life in the Premier League, and just last weekend they went to Everton and won 2-0. The place will be buzzing and while there won’t be too many fans there for this one, just getting a positive vibe because the team are doing so well in the Premier League, far better than many people expected.
Sheffield United vs Sunderland Betting Tips
A game that is likely to be played between two reserve teams here and if that is the case then Sheffield United have by far the better options. They will likely field a few players who won promotion from the Championship with them last season who are struggling to get a Premier League game right now, going up against players who are struggling to get into a League One team.
Sheffield United are the clear pick here, I fancy them to win this with ease.
