Premier league 2019 odds – Manchester City favourites again
It won’t come as a surprise to many people reading this, but as it turns out, Manchester City are the betting favourites to lift the Premier League 2019 title for the second year in a row. Defending the title of being Champions of England is something that hasn’t exactly been an easy task over the course of the last decade or so, with the last team to accomplish it being Manchester United who completed a three-peat between the 2006/07 season and the 2008/09 season. The Premier league 2019 odds on Manchester City are currently at 1.62 (Betsafe).
City stormed to the title last year with an impactful and ruthless attacking prowess, that didn’t seem to let up for anyone. They left their nearest contenders in the dust and, essentially, were able to take the last few games off as a holiday. When Pep Guardiola first came into the fold it was obvious to see that there was the possibility of something special happening for the club in the next few years, but few could’ve imagined that it would happen so quickly with the Spaniard completely changing the way in which we thought it was possible to win the Premier League.
By that, we don’t mean past winners haven’t been impressive – but instead, that nobody has ever been able to control games of football in this league like City did last season. They were able to implement the same kind of strategy and technique that we’ve seen from Barcelona throughout the years, which is hardly surprising, given that Guardiola was also one of the masterminds behind that particular operation.
As we look ahead to the future it’s interesting to note that, for once, City are going out of their way to strengthen their squad in the wake of winning the title. That hasn’t always been the case and with the signing of Riyad Mahrez alone, they’ve added someone into their ranks who could easily carry half of the teams in the top flight by himself. They’ve got options coming out of their ears, they’ve got momentum, and they’ve got a proven winning pedigree – what could possibly go wrong?
Alas, the answer to that question lies in the next two favourites to lift the PL title: Liverpool and Manchester United. On one hand, you’ve got the Reds who are coming off the back of a season where they not only managed to defeat City in the Champions League but also managed to get to the final of the competition before losing to Real Madrid. On top of that, they’ve improved in the transfer window, and they’ve also got a hungry manager in the form of Jurgen Klopp who will be eager to prove that they can get the job done in domestic football as well as European.
Then, of course, there’s United – who are being led by the always fascinating Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese boss may not be the most popular of figures but he certainly knows how to win, and losing out to Guardiola is going to have been eating away at him all summer. They’ve been quietly going about their own business in the transfer window, and now, they seem ready to explode into life once things get underway in August.
But still, is that going to be enough for them to dethrone Manchester City?
