NYCFC Tackle Toronto FC In Eastern Conference Showdown
Major League Soccer is on a roll right now, and regardless of what the other domestic leagues around the world are doing, it’s always nice to know that North America’s premier league is taking steps towards improvements with each and every passing week. With the MLS Cup playoffs being right around the corner, now is the time for us to see which sides are the real deal – and which will fall away. Today we’re going to take a look at New York City FC vs Toronto FC, which should be a fairly fascinating encounter between two franchises that are hoping to run the show in the Eastern Conference over the next few years.
New York City FC leads the way in the Eastern Conference by two points, with Philadelphia currently being their closest challengers. Their latest six game spell began with a 2-1 defeat courtesy of Atlanta United, but ever since then, they’ve been on a great run of form. They battered FC Cincinnati 4-1, edged past Columbus 1-0, and then proceeded to defeat New York Red Bulls. They dispatched of Vancouver and were able to grab a somewhat fortunate win over New England Revolution, setting them on the path towards the top of the division which is where they currently reside.
Toronto are in sixth place and while they may be four points ahead of Montreal in eighth, it’ll still be some time before they are secure of a spot in the playoffs. Their latest six game stretch began with a 2-0 loss to NY Red Bulls in which they never really looked like they were in the game. Then began a five game unbeaten run as they picked up back to back draws against Orlando City and Columbus. They proceeded to beat Montreal in a pretty close 2-1 affair, before dropping points again against New England. They then took on FC Cincinnati which served as a welcome return to winning ways, winning 5-1.
NYCFC vs Toronto FC Betting Prediction
Toronto is the kind of team that you simply cannot count out of any game regardless of how much of an underdog they seem to be, but NYCFC are starting to put together the kind of results that will inevitably make them one of the favourites to lift the MLS Cup high at the end of the current season. It’s going to be a pretty close game and we’re anticipating quite a few goals, but we’re almost more interested in the defensive side of things.
