Manchester United favourites to begin new season with home victory
The new Premier League season is finally here and this year we will begin things with a game on Friday night. Leicester travel up north to face Manchester United hoping they can cause a surprise on the opening day. United finished second in the league last season and they will be looking to push rivals Manchester City even harder this season, as well as having success elsewhere. United have spent money this summer, not as much as some would have liked, but enough to keep them as a genuine threat and fans will want to see more from them this campaign.
Leicester struggled at the start of last season and they will be hoping that doesn’t happen again this season. They have a good core of players that need to keep fit if they are to have any success, and if they do then a top half finish looks likely for The Foxes. Jamie Vardy will once again be key for them and they will be looking for goals from him, while at the back Harry Maguire comes back to Leicester on the back of a very impressive World Cup and will be expected to marshall the defence once more.
This looks set to be a very interesting contest between two teams who would love nothing more than a fast start in August. Leicester will understand that this represents a tough start for them and they would love to take a point back home with them from this, while nothing other than three points would satisfy the Old Trafford home crowd.
Manchester United vs Leicester Betting tips
The bookmakers have rightfully installed Manchester United as favourites for this game, although they do look a little short in the betting to me. I do think United will win this one, but the margin is only set to be a slim one, not as convincing as the bookmakers are suggesting by the way they are pricing this game up. Leciester are a solid team and have the ability to frustrate and cause problems for United at both ends of the field on Friday. Jose Mourinho will know the pressure is on him a little to perform, and he would love a fast start from his team to calm things down and get the fans on side.
This won’t be easy for Manchester United, but I am going to back them to win the game. They are at home and they have to use that advantage throughout the season if they are to get any closer to City this season, who look to be very strong once more. The game should be a good one to watch as I don’t think Leicester will arrive and play defensively, I think they will have a go at United, which will please the neutrals watching on TV.
The price isn’t great, but Manchester United are the pick here, they are a strong team who have the ability to do well this season and a good start on Friday night at home awaits them.
