Liverpool Fancied to Land Super Cup
Champions League winners Liverpool take on Europa League winners Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday evening in Istanbul, Turkey. This traditional curtain raiser to the new European season has two English clubs taking each other on in what should be an intriguing clash.
The big question mark hanging over this game is of course what teams will be taking to the field. Both clubs have started their Premier League campaigns, and both have games this coming weekend, something that will pose an early question for their respective managers. I do think they will both field strong teams though, this is a unique piece of silverware to win, and one that you don’t get many chances at.
Should this be the case then I strongly favour Liverpool out of the two. They come here on the back of a big win over Norwich in the Premier League on Friday night, while Chelsea were thumped by Manchester United on Sunday.
Not only are those results the polar opposites of each other, but on top of the advantage that Liverpool have, they played on Friday night, giving them two full days extra time to prepare and travel to this one compared to what Chelsea had after they played away at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool didn’t need to be anywhere near their best to beat Norwich, but they showed glimpses of it, playing with great flow to comfortably beat the newly promoted side. Chelsea on the other hand were simply taken apart by Manchester United, and new boss Frank Lampard has a lot of work to do on the training ground, he could really have done without this game taking place to give him time to work with his players.
Liverpool vs Chelsea Betting Tips
A strange game to add up, will these two go for this or will they decide to rest players and focus on the league games that are coming up at the weekend? My hope is that they both play strong teams, but regardless of what they do, I still favour Liverpool to win this game.
They got off to the best possible start on Friday night, and look to be the one team that can once again challenge Manchester City in England. Chelsea on the other hand got off to the worst possible start under Lampard, and have a ton of work to do.
I’ll take Liverpool to land the Super Cup here on Wednesday night.
