Huddersfield and Fulham Set for Championship Stalemate
Two clubs relegated from the Premier League last season, Huddersfield and Fulham, take each other on this Friday night at the John Smith’s Stadium. Both teams will be desperate to get points on the board early as they look to adjust to life in the second tier but things have not gone to plan so far.
Huddersfield are yet to pick up a win from their first two games with a home defeat to Derby and a draw away at QPR last weekend. Fulham were beaten on the opening day at Barnsley, but bounced back nicely to win 2-0 against Fulham last weekend.
Both teams have shown a little promise in those games, Fulham especially, although neither have really hit the ground running and it could be a few games until we see them at their best in this division. Of the two, Fulham are the team to keep together most of their squad from last season and they are amongst the favourites for promotion back to the top tier at the first time of asking.
Huddersfield have decided to take a slower approach, selling a few players from last season to balance the books and resisting temptation to spend in an attempt to get straight back up. They are not taking any risks, but with how competitive the Championship is right now, this is a decision that could see them fade into the pack instead of standing out like an ex-Premier League team should.
Huddersfield vs Fulham Betting Tips
Both sides look to have enough about them to be challenging in the right half of the Championship table this season, but if one of them can challenge for promotion then it will more than likely be Fulham. However, I am far from convinced they are anywhere near at their best just yet, as their 1-0 defeat at Barnsley on the opening day showed us. I don’t think Huddersfield have the quality to beat Fulham even at home, and alongside this I am not sure Fulham are playing well enough to go to Huddersfield and beat them.
That could leave us with a stalemate here, which isn’t ideal but something that both clubs would probably be relatively content with.
That is what I am backing on Friday night, I think this will be close and while I respect the quality that Fulham have in their line up, I think they will have to settle for a draw here.
