France Can See Off Argentina in Opening Last 16 Game
The World Cup has reached the knockout round and the first game of the last 16 stage looks sure to be a classic. France take on Argentina on Saturday afternoon, and one of the main talking points so far at this World Cup has been how disappointing Argentina have been. France have not done as well and looks as assured as they should have, but the knockout round is always a time when the big teams come to life, so let’s hope these two do exactly that and give us a great game to watch on Saturday.
France have made it through to this stage by winning Group C, ending it with two victories and one draw to pick up seven points. Their last game came against Denmark, a game in which a draw suited both teams and that is exactly what happened in it. They made six changes in the game too, giving those on the fringes of the squad a chance to play in the tournament. It is expected they return to their normal starting line up when they play Argentina, and the players coming back in should be rested and ready to go.
Argentina have had a rocky start to the World Cup so far, but a vital goal in the last few minutes from Marcos Rojo of Manchester United was enough to book them a last 16 spot. A draw against Iceland was a poor start to the tournament, then things got much worse with a 3-0 defeat against Croatia, befroe a 2-1 victory over Nigeria put them through. This is far from what we expect of Argentina, going forward they are struggling and defensively they look as bad as they have ever done.
France vs Argentina Betting Prediction
While both teams are capable of playing better than we have seen from them so far, there is no doubt that France have shown us they are capable more than Argentina have. There is obvious division in the Argentinian camp right now and although they managed to find a way past against Nigeria, this is going to be a completely different game.
The pressure is on Argentina to perform, but they don’t look enough of a team to do so. France are a quality outfit, and while we have not seen them at their best so far in the tournament, it is around this stage when the good teams begin to make their move. This is what I think France will do and why I think France will win this game.
The French are genuine contenders to win the World Cup, and a big performance here will rapidly move them closer to the head of the betting market to lift the trophy. With strength all over the pitch, France have the defensive players to keep Argentina quiet, while at the same time having the attacking players to trouble this shaky looking Argentinan defence.
This should be a great game, but looking at the two teams France are the team that appear to be in the strongest position.
