Everyone loves a local derby and the fans in Los Angeles get their derby game on Friday when Los Angeles FC take on the LA Galaxy in a game known by the fans as El Trafico. This is one of the most fascinating derbies out there at the moment, and puts together two very different franchises.

The Galaxy are one of the most recognisible names in American soccer, they have a huge fan base behind them, and tales from the past when the likes of David Beckham took to the field for them. However, their team this season is not at the same level as what we have seen in the past, and we are now seeing Los Angeles FC challenge them. The new kids on the block are still in their first MLS season, but they have done nothing but impress both on and off the field and appear to be a very good addition to the league.

Their first loss came in dramatic style against the Galaxy earlier this season, when FC had a three goal lead, only to blow that and lose the game 4-3. If we get anywhere near that kind of drama when these two meet again on Friday then we are going to be in for a cracking game that fans of each team, and neutrals are going to love watching.

This game looks to have everything needed to be a very good game, with good attacking players on each team, defensive issues on both sides and the local derby factoring in another intriguing element. There is little to choose between the two teams in the league standings too, Los Angeles FC are second with 35 points while the LA Galaxy are in fourth with 31 points.

However, after that first meeting between the two back in March, Los Angeles FC will have something to prove both to their own fans and to their opponents. That game should have been wrapped up when they were 3-0 ahead, but they fell into the trap of thinking the game was over, when it certainly wasn’t. They won’t want a repeat, and will want to show their superiority after being embarassed in that game.

This points towards a win for Los Angeles FC, who have impressed throughout their first season in the MLS and can continue that here. They will see FC Dallas are just four points ahead in the Western Conference rankings and will have them in their sights. Picking up the points here will give them a chance to do so over the coming games.
