Colombia Face Chile In Copa America Quarter-Final
The Copa America quarter-finals are underway, and after the drama of Brazil’s penalty shootout win over Paraguay, it feels like we’re starting to get down to the business end of the tournament. Every single team remaining knows that they’re just a win or two away from playing in the final, which could bring out a few surprise heroes and unlikely performances. The game that we’re going to be taking a look at today will be contested between Colombia and Chile, who will both consider themselves to be dark horses in this weird and wonderful race for the crown.
Colombia, who haven’t conceded in their last five games, got their campaign off to a wonderful start with a nice 2-0 win over Argentina. They went on to edge out Asian champions Qatar in an entertaining encounter, before doing the same thing to Paraguay in their final group stage game. In terms of their team news, it seems as if Duvan Zapata will continue to be the leading man for the Colombians, with Radamel Falcao slipping down the pecking order. He’ll probably be called upon as a substitute later on in the game, but for the time being, Zapata is the main man.
Chile’s run in the tournament began as you’d expect, with a 4-0 demolition of Japan. They went on to beat Ecuador 2-1, leading many to believe that they were doing a good job of putting their World Cup qualifying failure behind them. Alas, even after back to back wins, a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay brought them crashing back down to earth. Of course, they did rest the likes of Isla, Vidal and Beausejour in order to keep them as fit as possible prior to the knockout stages, meaning that their return to full strength could tip the odds back in their favour.
Colombia vs Chile Betting Prediction
Chile may well be the two-time defending champions, but it just feels like Colombia are starting to put everything together really nicely in this tournament. They look efficient going forward and they also look really strong at the back, which is hardly a bad combination. We think the reigning champs aren’t going to go down without a fight which should lead to quite a fun back and forth encounter, but in the end, Colombia are just going to have too much for them as they book a place in the semi-finals against either Uruguay or Peru.
