Are England Fans the Best Fans in the World?
England fans have followed their football team all over the world. We have seen thousands of them descend on tournaments to offer support to their team, and we are seeing this again in Russia this summer. The main difference between previous tournaments and this one is that there are far fewer England fans in Russia than expected.
Prior to the tournament, safety issues were raised as a concern after trouble between England and Russia fans on numerous occasions at the European Championships in 2016. That tournament saw Russian hooligans attack English fans on many occasions, and many of those feared for even worse than that when entering the Russian backyard for this tournament.
So far we have seen little if any trouble reported by the media in the entire tournament, including when England have been playing. However, this is too late, and the majoirty of England fans are enjoying the action from their own towns and cities around the country.
While this has meant fewer fans in the stadiums cheering England on, it has brought a fantastic atmosphere to the country and we have seen many great scenes from up and down the land showing England fans celebrating. One of the big viral videos so far at the World Cup has been the reaction to England’s second goal on Sunday against Panama from a pub. This shows England fans celebrating with each other and having a great time, just as they would if they were in Russia watching the game live. Are England Fans the Best in the World?
With scenes like that becoming more frequent as the World Cup develops, is now the time to declare that England fans are the best in the world? Whether you look at support at major tournaments, home and away games or those who want to celebrate in pubs and bars up and down the country, one thing is the same, the support is fierce and very scenes are very patriotic.
These scenes are taking place during a summer when England have little expectation on them going into the tournament, but gradually more people are believing they could win the tournament. Imagine what the scenes would be like if everyone thought England had a great chance of winning the trophy? Or better still, imagine what the goal celebrations would be like for a goal scored in the World Cup final? It is certainly an exciting thought for England fans.
This young and energetic England team has captured a nation and yet again fans are going out of their way to support this team, and celebrate in style when they win. England wants a World Cup trophy, and should they get one, the celebrations are going to be off the scale, something that points to England fans being the best football fans in the world.
