Ajax Fancied to Strike in Champions League Away Tie
It seems a little strange for a club as big as Ajax to be in the Champions League at this stage, but this is where they have to start. Despite reaching the semi final of the competition last season and knocking out some big guns including Real Madrid and Juventus, they have to qualify as the Eredivisie does not currently get a place in the group stages of the competition. That leaves them here, which gives them a tie with PAOK and a trip to Greece for the first leg on Tuesday.
The first thing they will have to do this summer is extinguish the memories from last season. They were moments away from reaching the final last season until a last minute Tottenham goal ended all of that, and this is something they have to get over quickly if they are to get to the group stages.
Although they have lost a number of key players from their squad last season, they remain capable of not only reaching the group stages but thriving in them. The run they went on last season was probably a one off, but there is hope this young, exciting team can qualify for the knockout round and see where that takes them.
One thing that really stood out about Ajax last year was how professional they were, and how good they looked away from home. They tackled those games well, and with this being their first away game of the 2019/20 campaign, it will be interesting to see how they tackle this one.
PAOK vs Ajax Betting Tips
If the Greek side are to have any chance of progressing here then they will need to win the first leg in good style, something I don’t think they can do. They come up against a talented Ajax team, one that is far too good to be playing at this stage of the competition and I think that class will really show on Tuesday.
This PAOK team can feel a little unlucky to have drawn Ajax here, they go up against one of the best teams at this stage in the competition and that is going to result in two defeat I believe. I’m backing Ajax to land the win here, and take home an advantage of the second leg next week.
